Sean WoodsSean Woods , Head Coach

Coach Woods is returning for his second season as Head Coach of the Lions.  With Woods at the helm, MHC Lacrosse ended its regular season 8-5 with four All-Conference Players, Deep South Player of the Year in David Hodgins, and Scholar Athlete of the Year in Colbe Klein.  The Deep South Conference also recognized Coach Woods and those achievements by voting him Coach of the Year for his inaugural season as Head Coach.  Mars Hill was also the NCAA Division II Statistical Leader in Man-Up Offense.  They converted on 54-81 opportunities with a 66 % conversion rate.  That conversion rate not only ranked first in Division II, but was first in Division I and Division III as well.  MHC also finished second in the country in Man-Down Defense and finished with a top 5 ranking in scoring offense.
Coach Woods came to Mars Hill after a three year stint at Washington College (Chestertown, MD) where he served as the First Assistant Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator.  During his three seasons at Washington, the Shoremen went 41–13 making a Quarterfinal appearance in 2006 and a Final Four run in 2004.
Starting his coaching career in Providence, RI, Coach Woods spent two seasons with the Brown University Bears.  As an Assistant he served as an offensive and goalie coach, as well as assisting with the special teams.
Woods graduated from Hartwick College (Oneonta, NY) in 2001.  While at Hartwick he was a four-year letterman and won the team’s Coaches Award in his senior year.
Coach Woods resides in Asheville, NC.

Richard CarringtonRichard Carrington, Assistant Coach

Richard Carrington returned to Mars Hill as the assistant lacrosse coach in July of 2007 after two successful seasons as the head boys’ varsity lacrosse coach at Cape Henry Collegiate School (Virginia Beach, VA).  Carrington amassed a 26-14 record (13-5 vs. conference opponents) while at Cape Henry.  Additionally, he coached 11 All-Conference performers, two All-State performers, and one All-American.  Carrington also guided each of his lacrosse teams at Cape Henry to the conference championship game and his 2007 squad reached the Division I State Quarterfinals.

Carrington served as the men’s assistant lacrosse coach at Kenyon College (Gambier, OH) before coming to Cape Henry. During his time at Kenyon, he coached a man-down unit that ranked among the best in the NCAC Conference.  In addition to being Kenyon’s defensive coordinator, Carrington’s duties included planning practices, game preparation, parent/alumni relations, fundraising, implementing team strength and conditioning programs and national recruiting.

Before coaching at Kenyon, Carrington served as the defensive coordinator for the boys’ varsity lacrosse team at Albemarle High School (Charlottesville, VA).  While at Albemarle, Carrington helped the team reach their seventh consecutive state championship game and the defense allowed a stifling 6.0 goals per game.  Albemarle is also Carrington’s alma mater.  During his time there as a high school student, he was a standout wrestler and member of the 1998 and 1999 regional champion lacrosse teams.

Carrington has worked and directed camps at some of the finest institutions in the country, including:  Mars Hill College, Washington and Lee University, Roanoke College, the University of Virginia, Washington and Jefferson College, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Cape Henry Collegiate School.  In addition to his camp experience, Carrington also coached a under-19 group of Tidewater players to a gold medal finish in the 2006 AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Carrington competed for Mars Hill College (2000-03) where he was a four-year starter on defense.  While at Mars Hill he set school records for career ground balls and times in the starting lineup.  Carrington earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Mars Hill in 2003.

Carrington is a native of Charlottesville, VA, and he currently resides in Mars Hill, NC.
