 ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Scholar Athlete Award for women's soccer in the South Atlantic Conference went to Abby Martin of Mars Hill College, the league office announced today.
Martin is a junior double-majoring in Elementary Education and Special Education with a 3.93 grade point average.
She was the 2007 SAC Freshman of the Year, and was All-Conference and All-Region in 2007 and 2008.
She is a member of Alpha Chi honor society and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team in 2008 and 2009.
Martin is active in campus and community projects, including serving as president of the Mars Hill Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also is a member of the Campus Activity Board and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Martin also has helped raise money for Make-A-Wish, a local family, has volunteered for a mission trip to Kenya to help build a church and has supported a child from the Dominican Republic through World Vision for the past four years.
