Justin GraggSPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Mars Hill cross country teams returned to action Saturday morning at the Milikan Research Park. In all over 2,000 runners competed in the various college and high school races.

The men's team finished second overall in a tight D-II race with King College.  They also finished ahead of three of the seven D-I teams that competed.  Leading the way for Mars Hill were Kit Powell (Antigo, Wis.) in third place at 26:37 and Justin Gragg (Lenoir, N.C.) in fourth at 27:39.  Other top finishers for the Lions were Trey McCain (Leesville, S.C.) in ninth place, Eric Blackburn (State Road, N.C.) in 13th place and Josh Corbin (Franklin, N.C.) in 20th place.

Rachael RogersThe women's team opened the day in the collegiate 5K race.  Competing with a short squad, they still turned in some strong performances and across the board showed improvement from last week’s race.  Once again, leading the way for the team were Hannah Moore (Franklin, N.C.) and Rachael Rogers (Clayton, Ga.).

The teams will return to action in two weeks on September 19th when they travel to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. The first race will start at 10:00 a.m.
