MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team opened conference play with a three-game sweep of Tusculum on Tuesday night inside Stanford Arena. The Lions defeated the Pioneers by scores of 28-26, 25-23 and 25-17.
Mars Hill improves to 7-2 overall, 1-0 in the SAC. Tusculum drops to 6-5 overall, 0-1 in the SAC.
The Lions were sparked by Laura Ann Huskey's (West Henderson, N.C.) double-double (11 kills and 11 digs). Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) led the offensive attack with 12 kills.
Kelsci Flora (Mishawaka, Ind.) recorded 14 digs. Rachel Rheinheimer (Elkhart, Ind.) had 11 digs. Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.) posted 10 digs. Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) dished out 21 assists and had two service aces.
Carly Swisher (Fort Collins, Colo.) netted 10 kills for Tusculum. Four Pioneers registered double-digit dig totals: Heather LeMay (Naperville, Ill.) with 15, Bailee Price (Fort Wayne, Ind.) with 14, Gina Coffaro (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 12 and Sam Underwood (Muncie, Ind.) with 10. Peyton Colclough (Manassas, Va.) dished out 27 assists.
Mars Hill will host Catawba on Friday night inside Stanford Arena. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
