MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' men's soccer team tied Erskine College 1-1 Thursday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. It was the season opener for both squads.
Erskine scored the first goal of the match at the 3:20 mark when Eric Moxley hit the back of the net on a through ball. Rury Caulfield (Glasgow, Scotland) tied the match with just over 20 minutes (69:47) left in regulation off a direct kick.
MHC out shot the Flying Fleet, 25-12 and had three more corner kicks (11-8). Alex Huckabee (Kernersville, N.C.) played all 110 minutes in goal for the Lions and made four saves. Devon Braykovich also played the entire match in the net for Erskine and made nine saves.
The Lions will play at Anderson University on Saturday night at 7 p.m. MHC will then return home on September 1 to face Lees-McRae College and start a five-game home stand.
