ROCK HILL, S.C. - The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week have been announced. Mars Hill College running back Jonas Randolph was named Offensive Player of the Week. Mars Hill wide receiver Demetrius Smedley was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Randolph, a sophomore running back from Daleville, Ala., rushed for 216 yards and two scores against St. Augustine's and set a new school record for most rushing attempts in a game with 43. The old record was held by Travis McFadden who rushed 39 times against Presbyterian College in 2001.
Smedley, a freshman from Decatur, Ga., blocked a punt, then chased the loose ball 38 yards to recover it in the Falcons endzone for Mars Hill's second score of the game. He then scored on a PAT rush to put Mars Hill up for good 20-14 and seal a Lion home opening victory.
Brevard College linebacker Stanley Jones was named Defensive Player of the Week.
