MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' Women's Basketball Program has added two more players to the roster, Head Coach Jennifer Nance announced today. Sky Assif and Margaret Harvey have committed to compete for MHC during the 2009-10 academic year. Assif and Harvey join Katie Buckner, Beth Miller, Krystal Moore, and Cassie Yeargan who signed earlier this year.

Assif is a 5’3" combo guard from Cross Lanes, W. Va., where she attended Nitro High School. As a senior, Assif helped lead her team to a 17-7 record while averaging 15 points, five assists, three rebounds and the same number of steals per game and hit the 1,000 point plateau. For her efforts, Assif was named All-Kanawha Valley and All-Mountain State Athletic Conference.

Head Coach Jennifer Nance stated, "This season, Sky’s team went through a lot of adversity by changing head coaches three times throughout the season.  I was very impressed with how she handled herself and the ever changing situation.  In spite of this, she still had a great senior year and we are excited that she is a part of our program. She is an explosive player and a great passer who will provide depth at the guard position.”

Harvey is a 5’11" wing who originally comes from Greensboro, N.C., where she attended Forsyth Country Day School.  Margaret spent last season at Old Dominion University. Although she missed a month of action due to injury, she played in 21 games during the season. In her prep career, Harvey helped her team to a 132-33 record over four years. As a senior she averaged 13.5 points, five rebounds and four assists per contest and her team finished 28-5. Harvey was named Conference Co-Player of the Year and earned All-State honors. Harvey finished her prep career scoring 1,559 points, 533 assists and nailed 209 three pointers. All three of these statistics place her in the top three of the school record book.

Head Coach Jennifer Nance stated, "Margaret has the ability to take our team to the next level. She is a talented player who can handle, shoot and defend that will allow her to play many different positions for us. On top of her natural ability she has a passion for the game of basketball. She is constantly in the gym working on her game. She has a very bright future at Mars Hill.”

“We are very excited to welcome these two young women to our program. In addition to being great basketball players, they are all great people who come from supportive families. They will fit in well with the Lion family”

Mars Hill College is a NCAA Division II institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The league is comprised of schools in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
