MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill senior forward Jessica Blanford recently joined elite company. Blanford's 17 point effort in the game against Carson-Newman on Saturday put her over 1,000 career points scored. She becomes only the 22nd player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau. The Concord, N.C., native now has scored 1,011 points in her four years donning the blue and gold.
Blanford has scored 171 points this season in 17 games, an average of 10.1 points per game. She is second on the team in points per game and rebounds per game with 6.8. For her career Blanford has averaged 9.9 points per game in 102 total games.
Just ahead of Blanford is Jackie Shelton with 1,026 points. Denise Shelton, who played at Mars Hill from 1998-2002, is the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,162 career points.
