MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lenoir-Rhyne volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss to Mars Hill Friday night inside Stanford Arena with a four set victory. The Bears defeated the Lions by scores of 25-16, 25-27, 25-20 and 30-28. Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 13-18, 6-9 in the SAC. Mars Hill drops to 8-17, 1-14 in league play.
The Bears were sparked by three players that posted double-doubles. Lindsey Cantu (Orlando, Fla.) recorded 13 kills and 12 digs. Brooke Christenbury (Mooresville, N.C.) netted 10 kills and 15 digs, including nine service aces. Hannah Stewart (Statesville, N.C.) amassed 15 digs and 46 assists.
Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) was all over the court for the Lions, posting a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.) and Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) each had 13 digs. Jessica Britt (Chesapeake, Va.) dished out 25 assists. Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) had 14 assists in a solid outing.
Lenoir-Rhyne recorded more kills (52-48), digs (79-63) and service aces (14-6) than Mars Hill.
Mars Hill will host Catawba tomorrow at 2 p.m. inside Stanford Arena. Before the match, four seniors will be honored for their hard work and dedication to the volleyball program.
