 MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill volleyball team closed out the 2008 season with a loss to Lander University Monday night inside Stanford Arena. The Bearcats defeated the Lions in three games by scores of 25-9, 25-13 and 25-18. Lander improves to 22-10. Mars Hill drops to 8-19.
Magi Nottingham (Indianapolis, Ind.) spearheaded the Bearcats offense with 12 kills. Marina Camps (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) registered 10 digs. Candace LaRocca (St. Louis, Mo.) dished out 34 assists for Lander.
Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) nearly posted a double-double with nine kills and nine digs for Mars Hill. Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) recorded 12 digs in her final collegiate match. Sarah Paquette (Swannanoa, N.C.) poured in 12 assists for the Lions.
Lander totaled more kills (45-24) and assists (39-20) than Mars Hill. The Lions tallied more digs (41-39) than the Bearcats.
