MARS HILL, N.C. – The Catawba volleyball team spoiled Senior Day festivities Saturday afternoon inside Stanford Arena as the Indians defeated the Lions in three games by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-19. Catawba improves to 20-9, 11-5 in the SAC. Mars Hill drops to 8-18, 1-15 in the conference.
Before the match, seniors Jessica Britt (Chesapeake, Va.), Brittany Enloe (Bat Cave, N.C.), Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) and JoAnna Riddle (Rosman, N.C.) were all honored for their commitment to the volleyball program over the last four years.
Catawba opened the first set strong and continued the effort throughout the match. Melissa Griffith (Williamsburg, Va.) powered the Indians' offense with 15 kills. Melissa Powers (Bennett, N.C.) recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs. Mai Zoua Lo (Hickory, N.C.) manned the back lines for Catawba and registered 16 digs. Megan Courson (Statesville, N.C.) dished out 36 assists.
Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) posted eight kills and nine digs for Mars Hill. Tafunai, Kelly Koziel (New Carlisle, Ind.) and Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) each had nine digs. Jessica Britt (Chesapeake, Va.) poured in 18 assists for the Lions.
Catawba totaled more kills (44-27), digs (59-46) and assists (42-22) than Mars Hill.
Mars Hill will host Lander University on November 10 inside Stanford Arena to conclude the season. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
