JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles posted a three-game sweep over Mars Hill at Holt Fieldhouse in South Atlantic Conference action. The Lady Eagles now move to 17-11 and 5-3 in the conference, while the Lions drop to 7-10 and 1-7.
Carson-Newman jumped out to quick 1-0 lead, winning the first set, 25-9. The Lady Eagles were led by the trio of Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio), Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) and Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) with two kills apiece.
The Lady Eagles would keep the momentum in their favor into the second and third sets as well.
In the second set, Carson-Newman posted a 25-17 victory over the Lions. Juniors Jessica Brady (Fruitland Park, Fla.) and Katie Troyer (Plain City, Ohio), each with four kills, paced the Lady Eagles. Mars Hill was led by freshman Evie Tafunai (Edwardsburg, Mich.) with four kills.
Carson-Newman held off the Lions' efforts into the third set, posting a 25-17 win to get the sweep. Balanced hitting throughout the set from the Lady Eagles, including a .385 team hitting percentage, lifted C-N to the win. Mars Hill was led by senior Lindsay Phillips (Rosman, N.C.) with four kills.
Mars Hill will be back in action this Friday in Stanford Arena. The Lions will host Brevard at 7:00 p.m.
