MARS HILL, N.C. - Miranda Schmidt, Maxie Resnik, Megan Barlett, Taylor Bugg, and Amber Romeo have all signed to swim for the Mars Hill women's team during the 2009-10 academic year, head coach Teddy Guyer announced. They join Katy Sorrells, who signed with the Lions last November.

"I am very excited to have signed such quality young women to our swim team," said Guyer. "We expect a lot from our student-athletes, and all of these new swimmers have that ability to step in right away and help us reach our goals for next year.”

Miranda SchmidtSchmidt is from Weaverville, N.C. and attends North Buncombe High School. She has a 4.25 GPA and is in the top 12% of her class. Schmidt is a scholar athlete, junior marshall, and was voted Most Valuable Swimmer on her high school team all four years. Her swimming accomplishments include being a four-time regional qualifier, four-time state qualifier and finishing seventh in the state this year in the 100 yard backstroke. Schmidt was also selected to the All-Western North Carolina Swim Team, her high school coach is Kaley Ballard, and she swims year round for Asheville Swim Club coached by Allen Berry.

Maxie ResnikResnik is from Acworth, Ga. and attends North Cobb Christian High School. She was a four-time GISA All-State Swimmer, the captain of her school swim team and holds three team records.  Resnik was also a member of four relays which won the GISA State Swimming Championships. Her high school coach is Kevin Ellis and she swims year round for Stingray Swim Club and is coached by Ian Goss and Andy Baer.

Megan BarlettBarlett is from Tallahassee, Fla. and attends Leon High School. She was captain of her high school swim team and is a four-year regional and state qualifier. Barlett was named to the Tallahassee All-Big Bend Swim Team four times and was honored with the Leo Award by her high school teammates. Her high school coach is Laura Bania and she swims for Tallahassee Aquatics Club and is coached by Terry Maul.

Taylor BuggBugg is from San Diego, Ca. and attends Mount Carmel High School. She is an honors student with a 4.1 GPA and has received numerous scholar athlete awards. Bugg was captain of her swim team, a three-time CIF state swimming qualifier and was also on the water polo team.  She is a member of the Pacific Swim Club and is coached by Dan Peck who is also her high school coach.

 

Amber RomeoRomeo is from Hickory, N.C.  and attends St. Stephens High School. She was a regional and state qualifier in the 500, 100, and 200 Yard Freestyle. She swims for Linda Kidd at XCell Aquatics.

 

 

Katy SorrellsSorrells is from Canton, N.C. and attends Pisgah High School. She is ranked second in her class with a 4.54 GPA and was named a Scholastic All-American by the National Swim Coaches Association. Sorrells is a four-time regional and state finalist. During this past season, she placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and fourth in the 100 Yard Butterfly at the North Carolina State Swim Meet. She was also named to the All-Western North Carolina Swim Team. Her high school coach is Carol Sorrells and she swims year round for the Asheville Swim Club coached by Allen Barry.
