MARS HILL, N.C. - Katy Sorrells has committed to Mars Hill College and compete for the women's swimming team for the 2009-10 academic year. Katy is from Canton, N.C. and swims for Pisgah High and year round with the Asheville Swim Club.
Katy has placed in the top six or higher every year in the N.C. State High School meet. In 2008 she placed third in the 100 Breaststroke. Other swimming awards include ; All-Conference last three years, All-Western North Carolina last three years, WAC Swimmer of the Year last two years, placed 11th at the Y Nationals in 2006, participated in the U.S. Scholar-Athlete Games and was invited to train at the Olympic Training Center this past summer.
Katy also excels in the classroom. She is a member of the National Honors Society, a Junior Marshall and ranks second in her graduating class at Pisgah.
Coach Guyer stated, “I am very pleased Katy chose Mars Hill. She is one of the best swimmers in the state and she also excels in the class room. Katy will step in and make a difference immediately for us next year”.
