PJ MaloneyHUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The women's and men's swim teams opened the Appalachian Swimming and Diving Conference Championships Friday at Marshall University. After day one of the two day event, the men's team is in second place with 295 points. The women's team is in third place with 225 points.

PJ Maloney (Corning, N.Y.) won the 200 Yard Fly with a time of 2:02.19. He also came in second in the 500 Yard Freestyle in 4:55.33. Ed Smith (Blairsville, Ga.) won the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 58.96 seconds. For his efforts, he got an NCAA National B Cut. Carson Fackler (Bakersfield, Calif.) won the 200 Yard Backstroke in 1:57.36. Maloney, Smith, Fackler, and Mike Wilkes (Lake Placid, Fla.) teamed to win the 400 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:37.92.

Rebekah ThomasOn the women's side, Rebekah Thomas (Stanley, N.C.) placed second in the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:14.73. Lena Palo (Lexington, S.C.) placed second in the 100 Yard Freestyle in 54.44 seconds.

The Appalachian Swimming and Diving Conference Championships continue tomorrow at Marshall University.
