Ashley SeawellMARS HILL, N.C. – Mars Hill swept a doubleheader with Anderson at Ponder Park Wednesday afternoon and ran its winning streak to three games. The Lions won the first game 2-1 and the second game 3-1. The Lions are now 11-9. The Trojans are 14-15.

In the first game, Mars Hill struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ashley Seawell (Asheboro, N.C.) singled up the middle, scoring Rebekah Huff (Mars Hill, N.C.) to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Tara West (Urbana, Ohio) singled up the middle to score Seawell and increase Mars Hill's advantage to 2-0.

Anderson rallied with one run in the top half of the next inning. Kayla Williams (Anderson, S.C.) grounded out to Ashley Harber (Goose Creek, S.C.), but Amber Sutherland (Iva, S.C.) scored on the play to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Tiffany Farthing (Kure Beach, N.C.) retired the final four Trojan batters of the game in order to seal the victory.

Tiffany FarthingFarthing, now 3-2, picked up the game one victory for Mars Hill. She threw a complete game and allowed only one run on two hits while striking out nine batters.

Amber Duncan (Matthews, N.C.) dropped the first game for Anderson. She pitched five innings and surrendered two runs on nine hits.

Anderson scored first in game two with a run in the top of the second inning. Lyndsey Huitt (Anderson, S.C.) singled which plated Meredith Knox (Washington, N.C.) to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, Ashley Angell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) reached base on a fielding error by Duncan. Seawell then stepped to the plate in the next at-bat and did her damage with a two-run homerun to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage.

Harber added an insurance run for Mars Hill in the bottom of the fifth inning. She hit a single through the left side of the field which scored Angell to increase the lead to 3-1.

Tara WestWest, now 6-5, picked up the victory in game two for Mars Hill. She pitched a complete game and allowed only one run on four hits while striking out 12 batters.

Alex Waldroup (LaGrange, Ga.) dropped game two for Anderson. She threw a complete game and allowed three runs on six hits.

Mars Hill will host North Greenville at Ponder Park for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
