CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The men's golf team finished in ninth place yesterday after day one of the Wingate Invitational at the Olde Sycamore Plantation Course. The team of five players totaled a score of 325.
Nate Lockey (Brantford, Ontario, Canada) fired a 79, including a team-low 38 on the back nine, to lead the team and tie for 20th place overall.
Josh Spalding (Weaverville, N.C.) finished second on the team and tied for 29th overall after day one. He scored a 40 on the front and back nine holes to end the day with a total of 80.
Pfeiffer University leads all participating schools after day one. Its team of five players tallied a 294. Andrew Shiflet of Pfeiffer leads all individuals after day one with a total score of 68 (35-33).
Mars Hill will be back in action today for the final round of the Wingate Invitational.
