ROCK HILL, S.C. - Mars Hill College's P.J. Gore (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) has been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced today.
Gore, a senior guard from North Myrtle Beach, S.C., averaged 33.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.0 assists in leading Mars Hill to a 2-0 week with a pair of home wins over Wingate (94-77) and North Greenville (91-63) last Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. Gore also shot 67 percent (24-of-36) from the field and made 13-of-14 free throw attempts (93 percent).
Against the Bulldogs, Gore notched a career-high 34 points and crossed the 1,000-point mark for his career before scoring 32 points in the victory over the Crusaders. Gore currently leads Mars Hill (16-9) in scoring at 18.2 points per game.
Gore joins Danny Sanders (Shelby, N.C.), who was voted SAC Player of the Week on December 22, as Mars Hill recipients of the honor during the 2008-09 season.
The SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week is voted on by the league's nine sports information directors.
Mars Hill will travel to Tusculum on Wednesday night. Tip-time is set for 8 p.m.
