Tyler FarmerSALISBURY, N.C. - David Hodgins (Windor, Ontario, Canada) scored five goals to lead eighth-ranked Mars Hill to 17-6 victory over host Catawba in Deep South Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Lions improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the DSC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-3 and 0-1.

Brent Hann (Fallston, Md.) got the Lions going with a goal in the opening 40 seconds and Mars Hill never trailed. Hodgins started a three-goal spurt in the final 2:32 of the first quarter to give the Lions a 6-2 edge. Braden Artem (Acton, Ontario, Canada) scored twice for Catawba in the opening two minutes of the second quarter to trim the deficit to 6-4, but the Lions got a pair of goals from Danny Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and one from Hodgins to take a 10-4 lead at the half.

Artem scored a goal and assisted on one by Marty Tuohy (Weymouth, Mass.) as Catawba cut the margin to 11-6 midway through the third quarter. That would be the final tally for Catawba as the Lions scored the final six goals, including three by Hodgins.

Danny Farmer and Tyler Farmer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) each added three goals for Mars Hill. Artem had three goals for Catawba with Tuohy adding a pair. Mars Hill held a 48-25 edge in shots and won 21-of-27 face-offs, including 13 wins in 17 tries by Hann.

MHC will play at Lees-McRae on Wednesay afternoon. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
