Brian WilliamsMARS HILL, N.C. - The Lions' baseball team fell to No. 23 Anderson University Tuesday afternoon at Henderson Field, 16-14. The teams combined for 34 hits in the slugfest. Mars Hill is now 8-11 on the season while the Trojans improved to 12-5 on the year.

Blair Carson led the Trojans at the plate going 3-6 with seven RBI including a grand slam homerun to tie the game at 13-all in the eighth inning. Carson hit a pair of homeruns on the day. Matt Hill went 4-5 with with a homerun and four runs scored. Justin Rogers picked up the win (1-0) in relief.

Mike Dobre (Pompano Beach, Fla.), Tim Liberty (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Brian Williams (Orlando, Fla.), Devin Presnell (Boone, N.C.) and Dalton Hardee (Boone, N.C.) all recorded three hits for the Lions. Williams had four RBI while Liberty and Hardee tallied three RBI apiece. Jason Kennell (Charlotte, N.C.) took the loss (1-2) for MHC on the mound.

Trent Still hit a solo homerun to put Anderson on the board in the second inning before MHC answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring six runs on five hits and one Trojan error. Hardee had two RBI in the inning.

Anderson plated four runs in the third frame on four hits but again MHC answered the call putting three runs on the board in the bottom half of the third. Liberty drove in two of the three runs on a single to left field.

Anderson scored two runs in the sixth to make the score 9-7 but again Mars Hill was able to score again in the bottom half of the inning to lead by three runs (10-7). Carson hit a two run homerun in the seventh inning to bring Anderson within a single run (10-9) but three hits and a Trojan error gave MHC a 13-9 advantage heading into the eighth stanza. Anderson managed six runs on three hits and one Lion miscue to take a 15-13 advantage they would not relinquish. The teams traded runs in the final inning to make the score 16-14.

MHC will host Lake Erie College tomorrow for a double-header. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
